Definition

The rate of HIV transmission among adolescents and adults per 100,000 population

Numerator

Number of new HIV infections among persons aged 13 years and over

Denominator

Total number of persons aged 13 years and over in the population

Why Is This Important?

Most people who get HIV get it through anal or vaginal sex, or sharing needles, syringes, or other drug injection equipment. However, there are tools to help prevent HIV transmission.[https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/transmission.html ^1^]
