Why Is This Important?

Analysis of mortality by sex is essential to the elimination of health disparities.

How Are We Doing?

The age-adjusted death rate among males is highest among Blacks, followed by Whites, Hispanics, and Asians, with statistically significant differences between each racial/ethnic group. In 2019, the leading causes of death among males in New Jersey were: #heart disease #cancer #unintentional injury #stroke #chronic lower respiratory diseases (CLRD) #diabetes #septicemia #kidney disease #Alzheimer's disease #influenza and pneumonia In comparison, Alzheimer's ranked fourth among females and unintentional injury ranked sixth.

How Do We Compare With the U.S.?

The death rate among New Jersey males was significantly lower than that of U.S. males in 2019.
