The age-adjusted death rate due to Alzheimer's disease has been rising for over two decades. In New Jersey, nearly 2,700 deaths annually are due to Alzheimer's disease. In the total population and among each racial/ethnic group, females have higher death rates than males. In 2020, Alzheimer's disease was the fifth leading cause of death among women and eleventh among men in New Jersey. The age-adjusted death rate due to Alzheimer's disease among Whites in New Jersey is significantly higher than among other racial/ethnic groups. Alzheimer's disease was the fourth leading cause of death among persons aged 85 years and over in 2020.
