Health Indicator Report of New HIV/AIDS Diagnoses

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). Currently, there is no effective cure. However, with proper medical care HIV can be controlled. People with HIV who get effective HIV treatment can live long, healthy lives and protect their partners.
Between 2010-2021, more new HIV/AIDS diagnoses were observed among men who had sex with men (MSM) and by those with other/unknown adult risk factors. The number of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses attributed to heterosexual contact proved to be variable over this time span with a noticeable decrease and increase in cases. New diagnoses attributed to men who had sex with men and who injected drugs (MSM+PWID) remained stable during this time frame.

Notes

**Number is too small to report; statistically unstable. 2020 data should be interpreted with caution due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to HIV testing, care related services, and changes in testing modality (e.g., self-testing).
