Health Indicator Report of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH)

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). Currently, there is no effective cure. However, with proper medical care HIV can be controlled. People with HIV who get effective HIV treatment can live long, healthy lives and protect their partners.
Between 2010-2021, there was a distinct increase in the number of people living with HIV/AIDS among those aged 55-64 and 65+ years. There was also a visible increase in the number of people living with HIV/AIDS among those aged 25-34 years. During this same time frame, there was a decrease in the number of people living with HIV/AIDS among those aged 24 years and younger as well as those aged 35-54 years.

Notes

Data represent the estimated number of people living with HIV or AIDS who have been diagnosed, reported to the state, and are not known to have died. 2020 data should be interpreted with caution due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to HIV testing, care related services, and changes in testing modality (e.g., self-testing).
