Health Indicator Report of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH)

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). Currently, there is no effective cure. However, with proper medical care HIV can be controlled. People with HIV who get effective HIV treatment can live long, healthy lives and protect their partners.
Between 2010-2021, more non-Hispanic Blacks were living with HIV/AIDS compared to other racial/ethnic groups. There was a gradual increase in the number of Hispanics, non-Hispanic Whites, and non-Hispanic Asian/PIs living with HIV/AIDS. Numbers for other races remained stable during this time span.

Notes

Data represent the estimated number of people living with HIV or AIDS who have been diagnosed, reported to the state, and are not known to have died. Data for White, Black, and Asian/PI do not include Hispanics. Hispanic ethnicity includes persons of any race. "Other Race" includes American Indian/Native Alaskan and other races not mentioned, all not Hispanic. 2020 data should be interpreted with caution due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to HIV testing, care related services, and changes in testing modality (e.g., self-testing).
