In order to provide a consistent grouping and ranking standard, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) prepared a
List of 124 Selected Causes of Fetal Death. Forty-five causes on that list were
designated as eligible to be ranked as leading causes of fetal death (
List of
45 Rankable Causes of Death). NJSHAD's list of Leading Causes of Fetal
Death is derived from the list of 45 causes by grouping rare but rankable causes as well as unrankable causes into a residual group (#7 in the table below)
