Numerator:Estimated number of foreign-born persons
Denominator:Estimated number of persons in the population

How Are We Doing?

The proportion of the population that is foreign-born is slowly increasing in New Jersey but varies widely by race/ethnicity and county.

How Do We Compare With the U.S.?

Compared to the US as a whole, the population of New Jersey has a higher proportion of foreign-born residents (13.9% vs 23.5%, respectively, in 2022).

What Is Being Done?

The Office of New Americans (ONA) in the New Jersey Department of Human Services supports new Americans through outreach and education, and works on priorities to build trust, improve access to social services, workforce development and employment services, and legal services for immigrants.
